Birth name Dumile. Although he has a great number of aliases to unclude: MF Doom (MF standing for Metal Face or Metal Fingers), Zev Love X, Viktor Vaughn, and King Geedorah. Collaborative group names include: Danger Doom (with Danger Mouse), and Madvillian (with Madlib). He was born January 9th, 1971 in London, England. While young, he and his family moved to Long Island, New York. Dumile began freestyling in a Manhattan at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, hiding his face by wearing a stocking over his head. This is where he left his Zev Love X identity and assumed the name MF Doom (inspired by MF Grimm). He started wearing a mask that resembled that of Marvel Comic's supervillian Doctor Doom. He is never photographed without it, with the exceptions to Viktor Vaughn's "Mr. Clean," "The Question," and earlier photos.

Madvillain consists of MF Doom and Madlib. They formed the duo in 2002, and together they have released two albums Madvillainy (March 24th, 2004) and Madvillainy 2 (September 26, 2008).

Percy Carey, also known by the stage names MF Grimm and Build and Destroy is not only an amazing underground hip-hop artist, but an Eisner Award-nominated comic book writer from New York City. He grew up in the Upper West section of Manhattan, and was neighbor to Morgan Freeman, who helped arrange for him to be cast as a child actor on Sesame Street for four years. In 1993 he produced his first 12" single "So Whatcha Want Nigga?" and performed at the Jack The Rapper convention, sharing the stage with Lady of Rage, Tupac, and The Dogg Pound. In 1994, Grimm survived a murder attempt which killed his stepbrother. He was shot seven times in the incident. As a result of the attack the was deafened, blinded, and paralyzed from the waist down. Doctors predicted that he would suffer nulled senses and be paralyzed for the rest of his life. Grimm recovered with full vision, hearing, and speech ability, but is still confined to a wheelchair.

Peiter "Pete Philly" Monzon (born May 28th, 1980 in Aruba) and Peiter "Prerequisite" Perquin (born 1982 in Amsterdam) decided to collaberate in 2004 with their first EP "The Mindstate". The record recieved a lot of acclaim and they were swayed into creating a full album from the origonal. Each track was to convey a different state of mind, ergo the title "Mindstate". It took about a year to finish and featured such atrists as Cee-Major, and Senna Gourdou from the Netherlands, and American artist Talib Kweli.

Bahamadia was born in 1976 in Philidelphia as Antonia Reed. She started as a DJ turned MC as a member of Gang Starr Foundation. Produced by Guru and DJ Gang Starr, her first critically-acclaimed debut album Kollage was released in 1996. She has had guest appearances on tracks of such artists as Talib Kweli, The Roots, Jedi Mind Tricks, and Planet Asia.

Johnson Barnes (Blu) was born April 15th, 1983, in Inglewood California. He took much influence from Common as he turned from freestyle to producing songs. He signed to Los Angeles independent label Sound in Color in 2004, over Interscope Records as well as Death Row Records. He released the Lifted EP in 2006, and Below the Heavens in August of 2007.

The group consists of two members; Thes One (Chris Portugal) and Double K (Michael Turner). Both members of People Under The Stairs were born in 1977, Thes One in Lima, and Double K in Los Angeles. After meeting in the late 1990's they quickly grew an appreciation for one another's music and formed People Under The Stairs, releasing thier first album The Next Step in 1998. In 2000 they released their second album Question in the Form of an Answer.

A duo formed in Washington D.C. in 2003, Panacea consists of MC Raw Poetic (Jason Moore) and K-Murdock (Kyle Murdock). K-Murdock had worked with Bilal and Raheem DeVaughn before creating the group. MC Raw Poetic is from Philidelphia and did not have as extensive a recording history, but proved his worth as a rapper through a smooth, clean delivery that moves from a quick pace into song-like hooks fluidly.

Nujabes birth name is simply his alias backwards, Jun Seba. As well as producing music, Nujabes owns several record stores in Japan and an independent label Hydeout Productions. Nujabes was the second artist chosen to craft the background music to the anime Samurai Champloo, which blends a feudal Japan setting with modern anachronisms, especially in reguards to hip-hop culture.

Afu-Ra was born in 1979 to the name Aaron Philip. He is a devout student of martial arts and chess. The Sun Rises in the East, by Juru, is where he made his first appearance as a rapper on the song entitled "Mental Stamina," in 1994. His debut single was released in 1998, by the title "Whirlwind Thru Cities". His highly anticipated debut album was released in October of 2000 to the name Body of the Life Force, and featured numerous hip-hop artists to include DJ Premier, M.O.P., and Wu-Tang's GZA.

Kidz in the Hall is the rap duo consisting of Jabari Evans (Naledge) and Michael Aguilar (Double-O), who met in 2000 at the University of Pennsylvania. They released their debut album in 2006, entitled School Was My Hustle, through Rawkus Records. Their last album, The In Crowd, was produced in 2008, through Duck Down Records. The album featured Masta Ace on it's first track "Drivin' Down the Block".

Atmosphere was origonally a three man group consisting of rapper Slug (Sean Daley, born September 7th, 1972), DJ/producer ANT (Anthony Davis) and Spawn (Derek Turner). It was through Musab (known as Beyond at the time) that Slug met ANT, and convinced Spawn to meet with him to record some of their first songs. Eventually this group of four, plus rapper Mr. Gene Poole, came together and formed the group The Headshots. Spawn left Atmosphere in 1997, after the release of their album Overcast!. The group also released God Loves Ugly in 2002, Seven's Travels in 2003, You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having in 2005, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold in 2008, and Leak At Will in 2009.

Masta Ace was born on December 4th, 1966, to the name Duval Clear, in Brooklyn, New York. In 1987 he made his first appearance on the song titled "The Symphony," with the likes of Juice Crew members Craig G, Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane, on Marley Marl's album In Control. Ace's debut single "Together" was released in 1989, and debut album, Take a Look Around, a year later, in 1990. His album Sittin' on Chrome broke into the Top 20 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, in 1995.

Living Legends is a large group comprised of Aesop, Bicasso, Eligh, The Grouch, Luckyiam, MURS, Scarub and Sunspot Jonz (the leader, founding it in 1990). They have released many albums to include; UHB IV: Stop and Retaliate (1999), The Underworld (2000), Angelz Wit Dirty Faces (2000), Almost Famous (2001), Crappy Old Shit (2003), Creative Differences (2004), Classic (2005), Legendary Music: Volume 1 (2006), Almost Famous: Re-Release (2007), The Gathering (2008) and Legendary Music: Volume II (2008). Through their recording history the members of the group have changed vastly. For example, the first album only included two members (BFAP and PSC). Since then the group has expanded and shrunken, until the group that remains today.

Seattle, Washington is the city hip-hop duo Common Market spawned from. The two members RA Scion and DJ Sabzi were both proven individual hip-hop artists since 2002, but came together to form Common Market in 2005. They released the EP "Black Patch War" on May 20th, 2008, and their album Tobacco Road on September 11th, 2008.

Jedi Mind Tricks was origonally a hip-hop duo started in 1996, by rapper Vinnie Paz (Vincenzo Luvineri) and DJ Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind (Kevin Baldwin), in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1999, the group was expanded to three members with the addition of New Jersey rapper Jus Allah (James Bostick), who joined the group for their second album Violent by Design.

Funky Fresh Few

Funky Fresh Few originated from Blackpool, Lancashire, England. They started as a graffiti crew called Imperial Arts, a band that origonally consisted of James Folks, Damon Savage and Timeone. They met with Mark Rae in 1996, who founded Grand Central Records and released their debut "Slow For Focus". They also released "Through These Veins" which featured the great underground artist Afu-Ra.
